The Best Types of Latte out there!
We’ve all had tasted a great latte or 2 in our life. Did you know that there are many many more types of latte available?
A latte is espresso-based coffee made with espresso and steamed milk with foam on top.
One of the great things about brewing coffee is that you can get a lot of inspiration for new coffee drinks.
You can almost try every taste you like: pistachio, pumpkin spice, coconut, vanilla, chocolate, and so on.
Let’s explore some new types of latte for you!
The Best Types of Latte
The best of is always a tricky one because it’s quite personal and subjective. The list can be much longer and in time, we will add some to the list but it never will be (and should be!) the limitative list you should try.
Remember, it’s our mission as coffee brewers to keep on new combinations and types of coffee, in this case, types of latte.
These different flavors can be added in a few ways:
- liquid: syrups
- solid: powdered
- liquid: milk infusion, advanced if you do it yourself
The syrups and powdered ones are very popular. It depends on your personal preference but one thing is certain, the taste will be there!
Mostly, milk, be it infused or not, will be one of the best possibilities to use because this is more natural and will give that extra creamy touch and keep sugar levels relatively low.
Finishing touches
Brewing the latte can be 1 thing, finishing and topping it off is another. Think about it, when you drink a latte, you drink it for a relaxing experience and you’ll know that it contains a few calories, don’t hold back on a little bit of topping.
- chocolate: chocolate parts on tip
- pistachio: small parts on top with green powder
The possibilities are endless.
Another great suggestion is the use of plant-based milk.
Plant-based milk
Nowadays, there are a lot of possibilities when it comes to plant-based milk.
This can be a new world for people who’re lactose-intolerant and still want to drink these great lattes and don’t have the bad things afterward.
That alone can be a welcome, relaxing, change right?
Pistachio Latte
This one is one of my favorites.
Starbucks sells them mostly through the winter season as it is not available every year.
It is made with, of course, pistachio and brown butter tastes.
Pistachio is a nut and thus an earthy flavor. Earthy flavors are known for their great match with coffee and milk.
It can be of course overwhelming how to make pistachio at home, you can replace these with pistachio syrup or pistachio milk.
Chocolate Latte
This is a latte made with chocolate-flavored syrup or cocoa powder. Of course, you have different types of chocolate.
Vanilla Latte
This one might be the most popular latte out there, so it must be great right?
It’s not a dominating latte and contains a subtle level of sweetness. Vanilla is a product used often when cooking and baking because it doesn’t have a strong taste.
You can use different types of vanilla. Just to clarify, when we say vanilla we mean vanilla, not French vanilla or anything else. French vanilla is often sweeter and more potent in taste.
Within one flavor there are also a lot of variations possible.
Coconut Latte
This one is made with coconut syrup or coconut milk.
When you first think of this combination, you might think: really? But yes, really, it can be a great experience.
Here we would go with coconut milk and no syrups. Try to keep it as natural as possible is our advice.
Pumpkin Spice
Say what? is it Halloween?
This one is a popular one used for a dessert and is in most cases heavier compared to a regular flavored coffee.
This is one of the more difficult ones to make, in the way that it requires more ingredients to be brewed.
Mocha Latte
This one is a catchy and popular name and latte.
Mocha is a combination of chocolate, coffee, and milk. A Mocha latte is a great choice if you’re indecisive or can’t choose between a chocolate latte or a coffee.
Cinnamon Latte
Cinnamon is often used as a sweetener to coffee and enriches your coffee experience. It gives your coffee an earthy taste and can provide you with health advantages.
The powdered version is often sugar-free, if you use syrups as a way for your cinnamon latte, the sugar content will be higher.
Caramel Latte
This one is a great latte if you like things sweet! Caramel can be added in many ways, as a syrup or as powder.
You can also use caramelized milk for this one.
Hazelnut Latte
This nutty flavor goes great with coffee. It can be made with hazelnut syrup, powder, or butter.
Hazelnuts can also be made with plant-based milk. Brews with this milk are usually greater and richer in taste and don’t have much sugar in them.
Chai Latte
This latte contains chai spices such as cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. It’s a great choice if you want something warm and spicy.
You can use chai tea bags or loose leaves.
The Types of Latte from Starbucks
When we’re on a city trip or looking for recipes about coffee or just drinking coffee, we’ll likely run into a Starbucks for that.
When it comes to lattes, Starbucks does have a lot of types of lattes and keeps innovating and tweaking them. They undoubtedly have a whole team just for these things.
What Starbucks does very well, is offering different recipes at different times of the year. This is called seasonality. We’ll save this for another blog post but here are 4 “all-season” coffee drinks they have:
- Caffe Latte: This is a standard latte
- Caramel Macchiato: They call it a macchiato but it’s more closer to a latte, of course, I know it can get confusing. It’s a combination of espresso with vanilla syrup with steamed milk and caramel sauce on top.
- Blonde Vanilla Latte: This is a latte that’s made with blonde roast coffee beans from Starbucks. It’s a combination of espresso with steamed milk and vanilla syrup.
- Caffe Mocha: It’s a combination of espresso with steamed milk and chocolate sauce and is mostly topped with whipped cream. This one contains a lot of calories!
Wrapping up
So, remember that this list isn’t exhaustive, please don’t be shy to experiment with newer types of lattes that aren’t so commonly consumed. Feel free to try new combinations and pair them with your espresso and milk. In each of the components, there’s a lot of room for experimenting. Even lactose-intolerant people can try lattes with plant-based milk. Latte is for everyone!
